Fulham boss Martin Jol is proud to have signed Gareth Bale for Tottenham.

He signed 17-year-old Bale in 2007 when in charge at Spurs.

Dutchman Jol, 57, said: "I saw him at Southampton when he was 15, we followed him and other people came in - but I had a few words with his mum to convince him.

"With hindsight it's very satisfying. He's the best player in the league at the moment and he shows it week in, week out."
