Former stars can see Man City's Bridge going over top on Chelsea captain Terry

Former Arsenal striker Perry Groves reckons Manchester City fullback Wayne Bridge should go over the top on Chelsea captain John Terry today.

The former friends meet for the first time since Terry's affair with Bridge's ex-partner hit the news.

Groves, 44, said: "If I was Bridge, there is no way I'd shake hands with Terry.

"It's gone too far and it would be hypocritical of Bridge if he shook hands and made out like they're friends now. If there was a 50-50 challenge that gave me the chance to go over the top and do one on Terry, then I would, yes.

"You'd wait until the 89th minute so not to let your team down by getting sent off early but I'd definitely go in high.

"As for the whole day, I reckon Bridge will avoid all the communal areas at Stamford Bridge and just blank Terry if he comes across him.

"I'd have dealt with it by going down to see Terry in private. If that ended up in a fight, then so be it.

"Bridge has done the right thing by withdrawing from the England squad. He should be commended for acting in the team's best interests."

Former England and QPR star Stan Bowles also insisted he would not blame the City left-back for going a Bridge too far if the two men clash today.

Bowles said: "I wouldn't shake Terry's hand if I was Wayne Bridge, definitely not.

"This has all gone on behind his back and it's very hard for him to ignore it, as shown by Wayne turning his back on England.

"And it's very easy to lose your temper on the football pitch. He's obviously got the needle with Terry and you could understand if he went over the top on him - and if he did that I wouldn't blame him at all."
