Ex-Man Utd forward Kirovski: 'Amazing' Ferguson taught me to be humble and work hard

LA Galaxy technical director Jovan Kirovski has joined the growing chorus of those in the football community to praise Sir Alex Ferguson.

The retiring Manchester United manager oversaw Kirovski when he spent four years at Old Trafford back in the early-to-mid-1990s so is well-versed to know exactly what knowledge the great Scotsman had to impart.

"What an amazing, amazing manager, to be at a place like that for so long," Kirovski told MLSsoccer.com.

"I remember when I was a kid, he knew every player from the youth academy all the way to the first team. He was so helpful for my parents. He was amazing. Not only a teacher, but a father figure to all those kids who grew up in the system. [He was] throughout the whole club. He ran everything. That was amazing."

In regards to what he learnt from Ferguson, Kirovski, who retired from playing in 2011, added: "Just the basics of being humble, good character, working hard, not letting your head get too big.

"And there was nothing bigger than the club, and that was one of the biggest things. I mean nothing. No one was bigger than the club, and that's one of the biggest things I learned, and it's true."
