Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is emerging as favourite for the Spain job.
Quique Sanchez Flores has been linked with the post, as has former Real Madrid captain Michel.
However, Enrique is now under serious consideration. The Asturian played in three World Cups for Spain and has spoken openly about an ambition to take charge of La Roja.
Current coach Fernando Hierro is expected to be asked to step down after a disastrous World Cup for Spain.
"It is or has been a pleasure to train them (Spain)," Hierro offered yesterday.
