Everton's Vaughan: I never considered quitting

Everton striker James Vaughan insists he never considered retirement after picking up a shoulder injury in preseason.

Vaughan recalled the injury, sustained at Deepdale after an awkward fall, but says he never thought about quitting - despite the comments of best friend Victor Anichebe at the time.

"I knew I had done something bad when it happened but I thought at first that I would only be out for a couple of weeks," Vaughan told evertonc.com. "Obviously it has turned out to be more serious than that because the injury was very serious but it's just one of things.

"It was devastating what happened but it was blown out of proportion by what Victor (Anichebe) said. He didn't mean it to come across that way.

"I never thought seriously about quitting. It was just more a case of 'why me?' again.

"I was just feeling a bit sorry for myself. Since then I've just got my head down and worked hard to get back in the team.

"I've got good people around me, they have given me great support and whenever I have seen supporters, they have wished me well.

"The lads here are great, the coaching staff and the medical staff have been excellent, so hopefully it shouldn't be too long now."
