Everton fullback Lucas Digne admits he's playing in a new role this season under manager Rafa Benitez.
The France international has consistently been a dangerous outlet for the Blues down the left flank since his move to Merseyside from Barcelona in the summer of 2018.
However, he is yet to pick up an assist so far this term, despite creating 18 chances from that area of the pitch in the Premier League.
Digne told evertontv: "My chances to go forward depend more on the situation in the game than previously.
"The manager asked me to be more of a defender this season, to stay back a bit more and keep a better balance for the team.
"Then, sometimes, I can drive forwards, but only when it is right for the team. My first job is to defend, I am a left-back.
"If the manager asked me to defend 99 percent of the time, I would defend 99 percent of the time.
"If what you are being asked to do is for the good of the team, that is it, the end of the discussion. You do the job the manager wants.
"We want to compete high in the table and if I have to defend until the end of this season for us to reach that position – perfect."
