England coach Southgate finds defensive highlights in Brazil defeat

England coach Gareth Southgate defended his players after their 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Wembley on Saturday.

Endrick scored the winner for Brazil, becoming the youngest goalscorer at the stadium at 17 years and 246 days.

Southgate said, "I think with 10 minutes to go we thought we played well here.

"We have seen a lot of players with not a lot of England caps and we have held our own in possession and had attempts on goal.

"But, that one ruthless moment changes the game.

"They have clearly got some fabulous forwards and you have to defend well.

"We had one or two moments we didn't do that and our goalkeeper saved us on occasions.

"We never looked like we were being carved apart and turned over possession a lot, we managed to counter-attack but didn't find the final finish.

"We have several players missing so some of the combinations are different. Him (Phil Foden) and Jude (Bellingham) combined well, but again he is playing against a high level side and we are not dominating 75% of the ball which at times is the case with his club."
