Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita targets Spain call: Hopefully

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita is eyeing a late run for Spain's Euros squad.

Guaita is now regarded among the best shot-stoppers playing in the Premier League. The Spaniard was outstanding for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Selhurst Park.

Guaita has built on last season with Palace, his first full campaign in England, where he helped his defence concede their lowest goal total in the Premier League since 2013-14. The former Getafe keeper also finished in the Premier League's top ten for save percentages with 71.4 per cent. Those around him included Alisson (Liverpool, 72.2%), Ederson (Manchester City, 72.3%) and David De Gea (Manchester United, 73.6%).

Guaita is hoping his form this term has caught the eye of Spain coach Luis Enrique as he holds out hope of making La Roja's Euros squad this summer.

He told Marca: "The goal of any goalkeeper is to play for his team and the national team.

"There are very good goalkeepers that if they go it is because the coach decides they are better.

"Luis Enrique will call me tomorrow? Well, hopefully."

On the Premier League, he added: "The beauty of the Premier League is that any team can be playing in the competition until the last moment."

Guaita, 33, has a deal with Crystal Palace to the end of this season.
