Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is unhappy with manager Antonio Conte's style of football.
Conte's future at Stamford Bridge is in serious doubt, despite leading the Blues to FA Cup glory on Saturday.
Melchiot would like to see a more attack-minded manager to replace Conte if he were to leave.
“I would like to see someone who is a strong character and makes the team play everybody wants to see them play - and win things again," he told talkSPORT.
“Because at this point now I'm not sure if the owner is pleased with the way Conte has set up [his team] to play because they are defensive.
“He wants to play a lot go attacking football.
“I know Roman, that's what he wants.
“As long as his team doesn't play the attacking style and it's too negative that's when he gets frustrated with the coaches."
