Chelsea admit mistake was made with Brentford midfielder McEachran

Chelsea's top brass admit they have learned valuable lessons from Josh McEachran's failed spell at Stamford Bridge.

McEachran left the Blues this summer, signing for Championship outfit Brentford in an effort to resurrect his career.

After making his debut for Chelsea in the Champions League back in 2010, the 22-year-old was sent out on loan to five different clubs, including Swansea City, Middlesbrough, Watford, Wigan Athletic and Vitesse Arnhem.

Chelsea's technical director Michael Emenalo said the reigning Premier League Champions had learned plenty from their inability to get the best out of McEachran while he was on their books.

"We have to streamline the clubs where we want them to go, to make sure they are the right clubs and they go there and actually play," Emenalo told Chelsea TV.

"We have had situations in the past where we have lost players because they have gone to clubs and they didn't play. That defeats completely the purpose.

"Josh McEachran was a wonderful, wonderful talent and we could have had a different programme.

"But we have learned from that.

"One of the things we need to do is make sure that we are very specific in the choices we make in where the players go."
