Brisbane's Oar moulds himself on Kewell

Brisbane Roar young gun Tommy Oar admits he has tried to mould his game on Australian star Harry Kewell.

The 18-year old, who was yesterday called up to the Socceroos squad for next month's Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait, has long been likened to the former Leeds and Liverpool man and admits that he has tried to play in the same vein.

"When I was little and when he used to play for Leeds and at the start of his Liverpool career he was always my favourite player to watch," Oar said of Kewell.

"Obviously because he was Australian and also just because of the way he played. Trying to take defenders on and scoring goals; he's a very exciting player.

"I've always tried to mould my game on him."

After learning of his selection in the squad for the January 6 clash with Kuwait, Oar said it was probably his current match fitness that helped him over the line and was looking forward to teaming up with some of the other Socceroos.

"Match fitness is obviously a large part of who he chose for the squad, because it's a pretty important game," he added.

"I think that having played 90 minutes a lot recently has obviously helped my cause.

"It will be good to actually know a couple of people in the squad when I go away.

"I'm going to be the youngest - there might be a few other young boys as well but I don't really know them."
