Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is chasing Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe.
The Sun says the striker, 34, has been outstanding for the Black Cats despite their woes under David Moyes, but he would look to move on if they are relegated as seems likely.
Sunderland will let Defoe go rather than keep his big wages in the Championship — and Howe is keen to win the race with other clubs, including West Ham, interested.
There is also interest in China, but despite good money there it would end Defoe's England chances.
He has fond memories of the Cherries from a loan spell in his teens when he scored his first senior goal for them.
