Benfica's Mark Zoro impressed on trial with Blackburn but the two club's were unable to agree a fee. Local rivals Bolton have now stepped up their interest in the 25-year-old.
Trotters boss Gary Megson is expected to meet with Benfica on Monday to talk over terms.
