Blackburn Rovers face hefty fines for not playing Liverpool defender van den Berg

Blackburn Rovers are close to securing Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg.

The youngster wants regular first-team football, while Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to ensure his development.

According to The Sun, Blackburn are so eager to sign the Dutch defender they are willing to agree to a deal that includes penalty clauses if he does not play enough games.

Van den Berg has been linked with a whole host of teams in the Championship.

He performed excellently with Preston last season, managing 66 appearances.

Liverpool still see him as one for the future in the first-team.
