Beckham to continue career after World Cup

LA Galaxy star David Beckham has confirmed he will continue his playing career after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa which kicks off in June.

The England international midfielder, who is currently on loan with Italian club AC Milan, had been linked with retirement once the tournament concludes later this year but has insisted that he will kick on afterwards.

"I've always said I'd love to carry on playing after the World Cup and that isn't going to change. I don't know where the reports have come from, they definitely haven't come from myself," he told the Associated Press.

Beckham admitted he was unsure exactly where he would continue his career, with a third loan spell at the San Siro an option, but did say he would return to Los Angeles before making a decision.

"We will have to wait and see," Beckham said. "I will want to be playing top flight football. I have a year and a half left on my contract there (in Los Angeles) and obviously I am going back there after this, so it won't be a problem."
