Bayern Munich are rivaling Manchester United for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

The Swiss veteran is off contract at the end of the season and is viewed at United as potential cover for No1 David de Gea.

However, Sky Deutschland says United's plans are under threat from Bayern.

With Manuel Neuer out for the season with a broken leg, Bayern are ready to bid in January to sign Sommer as cover.

The German giants' move could force United to also make an offer for the Gladbach No1 rather than wait to take him as a free agent in June.
