Barcelona president Joan Laporta declared Lionel Messi the greatest EVER after his hat-trick against Real Zaragoza.
Messi again lit up Barca with a thrilling hat-trick last night.
"He's the best player in the world and the history of football. Along with [Johan] Cruyff and [Diego] Maradona he is the best we've seen in Barcelona," Laporta told Canal +.
"He's played a great match, he is a football genius and he plays for the team. He is the leader of Barcelona. Also he thinks about his team-mates after he handed the penalty to [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic to score."

To be as good as Maradona and other big names of all time, he must prove himself in the international level. I'm a fan of Argentina. But, Messi must give a goodbye kiss to the Fifa Player of the Year as they won't win it. Although he is a real genius when playing at Barca, he showed no class or contribution when their qualification to the world cup was hanging in a thread. Ppl should rather be realistic and expect him to be named again for the 2011-2012 when his Barca team does something special.
Balugrana - take you barcelona specs off. Messi is a great player absolutely but to say that the likes of C. Ronaldo and Rooney aren't great players is rather childish. If that were the case then barcelona have not had a "great" player since ronaldo when he was young. this is of course nonsence. xavi, iniesta, guardiola, ronaldinho, rivaldo, enrique, are or were great players. henry was a great player at arsenal for several years. rooney is a great player as has been ronaldo, scholes, beckham, keane, stam, ferdinand, cantona, robson at Man United.
