Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Villarreal defender Diego Godin.

The 24-year-old has penned a five-year contract at the Vicente Calderon, believed to be worth an initial fee of 8million euros.

Godin, who helped his country finish fourth at this summer's World Cup, joined Villarreal in 2007 from Nacional in his homeland and established himself as a regular for the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal earlier this week acquired World Cup-winning centre-back Carlos Marchena from Valencia on a three-year deal.
