Arsenal keeper coach Cana key in deal for Dijon No1 Runarsson

Arsenal goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana has been key in their push to sign Dijon No1 Runar Alex Runarsson.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal have agreed a £1.6million fee with French club Dijon for Runarsson.

Mikel Arteta is missing a shot-stopper in his squad after allowing Emiliano Martinez to move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa this week.

Runarsson, who had made 36 Ligue 1 appearances for his club in which he conceded 61 times, is due in London for a medical on Thursday, ahead of completing the switch.

It is not thought, however, that the deal for the 25-year-old will be completed in time for him to be picked for this weekend's clash with West Ham.

Arsenal had been linked with Brentford's David Raya, who worked under goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana in west London before the Spaniard departed to join Arteta's backroom staff.

It is believed that Runarsson is another goalkeeper who Cana had been keeping tabs on, with reported interest from the Bees not leading to a deal to sign the former FC Nordsjaelland player.
