Arsenal boss Wenger sets Wilshere, Ozil 'ideal' deadline to pen new deals

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has set Jack Wilshere a deadline to decide his future with the club.

The fit-again midfielder's contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

He has played just 13 minutes of Premier League football this season, though has seen action in the Carabao Cup and Europa League.

Wenger, while also discussing Mesut Ozil, admits he wants both players to have the futures settled before the winter market opens.

He said, “Ideally you want to keep both of them.

“I said many times that would be decided in December."

Meanwhile, England coach Gareth Southgate will overlook Wilshere for his squad for next week's friendlies against Brazil and Germany.

The midfielder was backed by Wenger to earn a call, but Southgate will leave him at Arsenal for now.

Wenger said just yesterday: “I spoke to him (Southgate) about Jack before the Swansea game.

“He just asked me how he is and I said no restrictions. He's in a very good way. I don't know if he will be called up. I would encourage him (Southgate) to do it.

“I am convinced it [being called up] would help him. When you have been so frustrated at so many times, every positive experience is welcome."
