Allen has no regrets over brief dalliance as Barnet boss

Martin Allen was in charge of Barnet for 19 days before a dramatic walk out to take up as the new boss of Notts County. Allen walked out on the Underhill side for the second time in his managerial career, but not before guiding them to a draw and two wins to offer them real hope of retaining their Football League.

"With Barnet I was asked to come in and help them and I said 'of course I will, and we'll stay up'," he said.

"No-one ever thought they would stay up and it was a crazy situation to go into, but I loved every minute of it. I loved working with the players and the staff and the supporters really got behind us.

"The three results, seven points out of nine, was a fantastic return. They will stay up - anyone can say what they like, but I know I played my part. I am content and happy, and can sleep at night."

Allen was speaking at Keele University, where he and Blackpool striker DJ Campbell were holding a camp as part of Pro FC, which provides opportunities for aspiring professional footballers.
