Allardyce: Liverpool should be angry over Mane red

Sam Allardyce insists Liverpool were done wrong over Sadio Mane's dismissal in their thrashing at Manchester City.

Liverpool have appealed against the length of Mane's three-match ban after he was dismissed by referee Jon Moss for catching City goalkeeper Ederson in the face with a high boot.

Former England coach Allardyce told Sky Sports: "Did he intend to injury him? He didn't.

"He's just going for the ball, he has to go for the ball and he can only go for it with his foot. He can't go with his head and he can't see the goalkeeper.

"Under the letter of the law, it's a red but I think that's wrong. I don't think someone should get sent off when he doesn't intend to injure the player.

"Maybe because the referee saw the keeper injured on the floor humanity kicked in. That made his decision subconsciously. If the keeper had jumped up, he'd have gone with a yellow."
