Former AC Milan coach Alberto Zaccheroni insists Stefano Pioli's team is capable of European qualification.

Zaccheroni believes the players have been underperforming this season.

He declared to Gazzetta dello Sport: "AC Milan certainly has the credentials to return to the Europa League, let's not forget that this group with (Rino) Gattuso has reached a point of almost qualifying for the Champions League and in addition other players have arrived.

"The problem is that all protagonists are playing below the levels of a year ago.

"This is the problem."
