Wout Faes credits Leicester for Belgium World Cup call

Wout Faes credits Leicester City for his Belgium World Cup call.

Speaking ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, Faes has lauded City's quality and admitted his performances in the starting 11, as well as the supporters being onside, went a long way to getting himself in the Belgium squad. He will represent his country at the tournament alongside City teammates Youri Tielemans and Timothy Castagne.

“I haven't played a lot in the national team. My transfer and performances in the league have made the difference," Faes said. "I immediately became a starter in the Premier League. We've managed a good run before the World Cup.

“Even in training, we go 100% in challenges. We go all out. The fans like me. I feel good when I'm on the pitch. I've noticed looks have changed since I left France for England. It's only positives for me. I think that it's an advantage with the national team manager."

He added: "It is logical that I had doubts about my selection, I think my transfer and performance in England were decisive. It is important that I was able to take that step and immediately landed in the starting line-up. At Leicester City, the quality is always there, even though we had a bad start and were last for a while.

"Whether I can also make minutes at the World Cup? I'm going to do my best in training, then we'll see. It is important to be able to be there at such a World Cup. But of course I also want to play.

"In England the intensity is very different than in France, where I played before. It is full, I think it suits me. Now everyone sees my matches, the French league is followed less. The national coach also says that I have made a lot of progress in England."
