Willie Wallace appointed ambassador to Celtic's Aussie clash

Celtic legend Willie Wallace has been appointed the official ambassador for Celtic's game against Brisbane next month. The highly clash between the Roar and the Hoops is the feature event of the Q150 Festival of Sport.

Stadium General Manager Paul Sergeant said securing Willie "Wispy" Wallace's involvement was a coup for the game.

"Willie is a legend of Scottish football and is well known to fans in Australia through his involvement as both a player and coach of the APIA side in the old national competition.

"Willie will be working closely with the games organisers leading up to Celtic's arrival in Brisbane.

"He will undertake a number of community and sponsor duties including official roles at a Gala Dinner being attended by both teams the night before and on game-day itself.

"He is a former Scottish international but earned his place in football history as part of the only Celtic team to have won the European championship 42 years ago. That team is known as the 'Lisbon Lions' and are still revered the length and breadth of the football world today.

"He is sure to receive a rousing reception, particularly from the many Celtic fans in attendance, when he is introduced to the crowd before kick-off on 12 July," Mr Sergeant said.

Mr Wallace said Celtic's visit was not only great for football but for Queensland in general.

"Celtic has millions of fans worldwide and particularly in Australia and New Zealand and I would expect a large number of them to come to Brisbane to witness The Hoops live in action. It has been more than 30 years since Celtic has played in this part of the world," Mr Wallace said.

Willie Wallace now lives in Queensland having retired to the Gold Coast at the conclusion of his illustrious football career.

He now enjoys the laidback lifestyle of the Gold Coast and when time permits, loves to play a round of golf with friends at any of the great courses on offer at the Coast.

Tickets are now on sale through Ticketek for the "Queensland Roars Against Racism" game at the Stadium.
