Former Manchester United coach Phil Neville believes his old club can win the Premier League title this season. United have won their last six games in a row and are eight points behind leaders Chelsea.

But Neville reckons United can stage a fightback and chase the Blues down.

Neville said: "They can [win the title] - and there's two reasons. I didn't believe this until last Monday at Southampton. It wasn't during the game, because I thought they were pretty lucky in the game, but it was at the end of the game, when they celebrated with the supporters.

"[Louis] van Gaal went down there, Ryan Giggs went down there, the goalkeeping coach went down there. All of a sudden, you've got that spirit - that indomitable spirit.

"I've won championships, and it's spirit that takes you, sometimes, that far.

"And at the moment, they've got the momentum. They've got some good games coming up where you think 'well they can win all these games over Christmas'.

"And then you never know, if teams slip up, they've got no midweek games in Europe. You just never know. They've also got the firepower.

"There are similarities between the United this year and Liverpool last year, where Liverpool had no Champions League football, they had the firepower to fire them up to the top of the league and United have got that this year.

"And I think defensively they have got to get better as well.

"And the biggest thing is the players believe that they can win the title and so does Louis van Gaal."
