Why? Palace co-owner Textor sacks Lage with Botafogo leading table

Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has sacked Bruno Lage as Botafogo coach.

The former Wolves manager has Botafogo top of the Brazilian table, but owner Textor has still decided to sack him today.

A Botafogo press release read: "Botafogo informs that, by decision of John Textor and the sports area, Bruno Lage is no longer the coach of the main team.

"Botafogo highlights the professionalism, character and commitment of Bruno Lage during the period in which he defended the black and white jersey and was part of our family. Despite the excellent start, with 10 consecutive useful results, the latest results were not those expected.

"The Club thanks Bruno and all his technical staff for the services rendered in recent months, wishing him much success in his future challenges.

"As a family, Botafogo is currently looking for solutions at home. The Club, with unshakable and firm confidence, will try to achieve the seasonal goal, with the tireless support of our fans. Lucio Flavio and Joel Carli (in the role of technical assistant) will take over the leadership of the team on an interim basis from this Wednesday, in preparation for Sunday's match against Fluminense in the Brazilian Championship."
