West Ham captain Rice on Palace defeat: We were not good enough

West Ham captain Declan Rice admits they fell short of standards after defeat to Crystal Palace.

Palace edged another derby thriller between the two clubs 4-3 in today's early kickoff.

Rice said: "I think it wasn't good enough today, being totally honest. To go 1-0 up and again, it's four goals that are avoidable. We put ourselves right in it and couldn't really get back into the game. We scored three set-piece goals but it's not enough considering where we are in the table. We needed to win today or at least get a point and to lose that one here as you can see that one has really hurt today.

"Credit to Palace, they defended well, really stopped us. The three in midfield for them worked really hard to stop me and Lucas [Paqueta] getting on the ball. It just wasn't enough today in terms of duels won, second balls, it wasn't enough all over the pitch.

On the Crystal Palace penalty, won and converted by Ebe Eze, Rice added: "I've just heard inside that it was a bad decision but I've actually not seen it back. There was a penalty against Liverpool which was a penalty and then today we've been done by two decisions and it seems to be going against us at the minute in terms of that.

"But by that point we'd already conceded three, that was the fourth and if you're coming away to Palace, one thing you can't do is concede three in the first half because you give yourselves a mountain to climb and you've got a hard chance of winning football matches conceding that many goals."
