West Ham United boss Avram Grant hopes to add to his squad before the Premiership kicks off.
Grant says they're working hard to bring in new signings.
"I hope there will be more signings before Aston Villa because we want players that make us stronger and that can help us," he told whufc.com.
"We need more competition in some areas. We will sign more players but only players that are better than what we have. If they are not we will not sign them."
The manager again did not get drawn on what he calls "summer stories" about potential new recruits but suggested that all of his transfer business was being done with long-term growth in mind. "We have targets for the next seasons, not only this season. We want to progress with good football and a good position in the league.
"We will do it step by step. First we don't want to fight against relegation like last year and then we will look forward."
