West Brom striker Hunt would choose England over Ireland

West Brom striker Simon Cox has England ambitions, despite the interest of the Republic of Ireland.

The Albion marksman is in line for a Republic of Ireland call-up from Giovanni Trapattoni.

But Reading-born Cox, 22, has also left the door open for Fabio Capello to contact him one day.

Cox, who fired 32 goals for Swindon last season, has seven this campaign but none in three matches.

The player, who has an Irish grandmother, said: "One of the Ireland scouts told me he was going to pass on my number to their No 2 Liam Brady.

"But if the goals and performances keep coming and the England manager ever phones, I can only say my Italian is rubbish!

"I'd be searching for the right words."
