WATCH: Liverpool loanee Ward: Huddersfield derby win over Leeds for fans!

Danny Ward dedicated Huddersfield Town's derby win over Leeds United to the club's supporters.

The Terriers produced a last-gasp goal over their West Yorkshire rivals to win 2-1 at John Smith's Stadium on Sunday, completing a league double over the Whites for the 2016/17 season.

Goalkeeper Ward, on loan from Liverpool, was in a buoyant mood after helping the team secure a monumental victory which he says was for the Huddersfield fans on the back of a quality 3-1 win over pre-round league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night.

“Massive!" he told HT TV.

“Massive win. Nice to get one over the local rivals. Doing the double makes it extra special.

“But I think the whole week in general, from the Brighton game - which was a statement - we wanted to back that up today.

“Derby games, even though we performed well, is about getting over the line and getting a result.

“It's brilliant for the club and the fans especially."

He added: “It's huge. It's a massive derby for us.

“Leeds have got a great history but people forget that this club have as well.

“We like to remind people from down the road from time to time. And it's nice to get one over your local rivals.

“But like I said, today is for the fans more than anyone."
