Warnock slams Spurs over Mourinho axe: C'mon Man City!

Neil Warnock has slammed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy over the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Ryan Mason has taken over as interim manager and will lead the team for Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Manchester City - the North London side's only remaining chance to win silverware this season.

And Mourinho's pal Warnock was left fuming at the news of his friend being given the boot.

“What can you say about that?" Warnock told BBC Tees. “That was one decision that doesn't come over right to me. They've obviously got someone lined up.

“Once again the hierarchy are listening to the players, which is absolutely rubbish.

“Players will have got him the sack, and it doesn't surprise me at all.

“Unfortunately some owners just listen to the players.

“I've seen it in the past where disgruntled players deliberately say something because they know they won't get a look in. It's the modern world.

“Some owners listen all the time but some have got more common sense. Player power, call it what you want."

Warnock suggested he would be supporting City in Sunday's Wembley clash, and blasted the performances of one player in particular in recent Tottenham games.

He added: “I did watch some of the last few Tottenham performances. I watched an England player look like he didn't give a damn and I did think then Jose's time might be limited, when this particular player looked like he didn't try a leg.

“The timing of it, the week before a cup final. Sorry but I can't remember Tottenham winning that much….

“It will be interesting to see how they get on on Sunday. I know now who I want to win."
