Villarreal rejected a major offer from Boca Juniors for midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme last week, it has been revealed.
A source close to the Argentine FA told Marca that Boca offered £8 million cash plus the option of signing either midfielder Ever Banega or striker Rodrigo Palacios in the future for Riquelme, but it wasn't enough for Villarreal.
Boca still haven't given up on signing Riquelme and are now discussing with the AFA the prospect of registering the midfielder for December's Club World Championship.
