Villarreal goalkeeper Pepe Reina has recalled his exchange with Vinicius Junior during their Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid.

Reina was seen shouting at Vinicius Jr from the Villarreal bench on the day.

"Our confrontation came about because of a heat on the pitch, since at the end I spoke to him calmly," Reina told El Larguero.

"From experience and from my age I told him that he was very good, but that he should focus more on playing: 'You do yourself a disservice by getting into controversy so much, it doesn't do you any good,' I told him."

Reina continued, "He told me that he did it on all pitches and that it was his way of playing, because he has his vision and I have mine. Honestly, I think that the more he focuses on playing, he's going to improve more, although I'm not the one to tell him anything.

"He is a superb player, and I admire him a lot."
