Villarreal coach Setien delighted with victory over Girona after crazy finish

Villarreal coach Quique Setien was delighted after their 1-0 win over Girona.

In stoppage time Villarreal had an excellent chance to take the game after the referee pointed to the penalty spot when Oriol Romeu brought down Pau Torres in the six-yard box. Gerard Moreno missed it.

And just when it looked like the game was going to end in a draw, Pau Torres was again fouled inside the box. This time it was Dani Parejo who took the spot-kick and the player from Coslada made no mistake to give Villarreal three points.

Setien said, “We played a fantastic game against a great opponent and we were able to minimise them. They had gone seven games without defeat. They're a team who put a lot of pressure on you and if you don't press them well, they put you in serious trouble. I'm happy with the work we did because we managed to play in the opposition's half for most of the game and we were patient enough to manage the ball from the back. The victory came at the last minute, but we had already deserved to take the win earlier.

“We had our opponents practically in their own box and perhaps we lacked precision in that last area, but the effort of the lads was extraordinary. They are good players with a great capacity for work."

On a Champions League place, Setien also said: “I don't normally look at the table. I look at my team, I want them to keep doing what they are doing and I want us to keep improving in terms of performances. It's true that we have the potential to be at the top if we continue at this level, but sometimes even the most insignificant details can help you or condemn you. It's risky to speculate when there's so much left to do."
