Villa young guns flying but w can't rely on them - Warnock

Aston Vila defender Stephen Warnock is delighted by the progress made by the club's young players but has suggested that perhaps the more senior members need to step up.

The likes of Andreas Weimann, Gary Gardner, Marc Albrighton and Barry Bannan have all been influential recently and Warnock is buoyed by that but feels it is too much to be asking these youngsters to produce each week.

"The young lads have managed to keep themselves sharp and they keep the place bubbling around the training ground," Warnock told the Express & Star in the wake of the weekend's 1-0 win over Fulham with the winner being scored by 20-year old Weimann.

"They're lively lads, they like to keep all the older players going and give out a lot of banter. It's great for the atmosphere, but they also know how to put the performances in on the pitch.

"You look at Marc Albrighton, Barry Bannan, Gary Gardner and obviously Andreas Weimann and realise these are good players.

"They need time though, you can't just throw them in straight away and expect big things of them. They are young players and they need a bit of time, but they're really good."
