Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has yet to be cleared to play for England and will not be in Roy Hodgson's squad for the friendlies with Spain and France later this month.
FIFA confirmed on Wednesday that clearance had not been granted despite the paperwork having been submitted for the player who represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, meaning Grealish will have to wait until 2016 for his debut.
A FIFA spokesperson said: "We can confirm having been contacted by the Football Association with a request for change of association of the player Jack Grealish.
"The matter is pending and being investigated by our services and as a result, we are not in a position to comment on it any further nor to give an estimation as to the relevant time line."
