The spark that kicked off Girona defender David Lopez's halftime blow-up against ref Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias has been revealed.

Lopez attacked Ortiz Arias in his halftime interview, accusing the ref of insulting him, during Girona's win against Almeria.

It's now been revealed Ortiz Arias was upset with Lopez after he refused to remove a ring before kickoff.

"David, is that ... he's wearing his ring," Ortiz Arias, as shown by internal cameras, said angrily to his assistants before jumping onto the field of play. "No, it's not that it's always the same. On top of that he tells me that he is wearing nothing, the worst thing of all is that he teases me.

"It is what makes me most angry."

He then tells his assistant, "Now before we start you check."

In the face of his anger, the players of Girona ask Ortiz Arias to relax:

"I am calm, but you know that you cannot carry things and try that (with me)."
