Newcastle United fullback Kieran Trippier admits the city of Newcastle is "buzzing" following the club's remarkable start in the Premier League.

The Magpies are in third position at present, with a serious chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League by finishing in the top four.

Trippier, who signed from Atletico Madrid last January, is relishing being at such a well-supported club who are on the up.

"The city is buzzing, especially with the way we've been performing this season, and the back end of last season as well," Trippier told the Undr The Cosh podcast.

"The fans deserve that. Newcastle need to be back where they once were and that's challenging. I've played at St James' Park loads of times against them and you can see it's a tough place to come.

"But I am definitely surprised by how passionate they are and the support, home and away, is mad."
