Trippier happy Newcastle beat Everton 'without being at our best'

Newcastle United were not at their best during their 1-0 win over Everton on Wednesday.

That is the opinion of right-back Kieran Trippier, who spoke after the game.

A Miguel Almiron individual strike was enough to seal all three points for the Magpies, who had drawn impressively against Manchester United at the weekend.

Trippier said: "It was a massive win for us. We've had a good spell recently and we want to keep pushing up the league and competing at the top of the table.

"We didn't perform to our best today but we grinded out the result. Ever since the gaffer has come here, and myself, it has been a positive place to be. We are performing well.

"The last two games not really, but we are still getting the results we want. Long may that continue."

His teammate Bruno Guimaraes, who assisted the winning goal, added: "Miggy [Almiron] is an amazing guy. I am really happy because all my assists here have been for him.

“I am proud of the team, it was a big step for us today."
