Turkish side Trabzonsporchief Muharrem Usta has claimed that he was close to securing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere on a season-long loan move during the summer.

The England international, who has only one year left on his deal with the Gunners, was linked with a number of clubs during the summer but ended up staying with the North London side.

"I held direct talks with Jack Wilshere," Usta told Turkish-Football.

"We wanted him on loan and were close to a deal but the move stalled at the last moment."
