Toure has lost hunger and desire, Man City taken eye off the prize – Mills

Danny Mills believes that the Manchester City players have taken their foot off the pedal following the announcement that Pep Guardiola will be appointed as manager next season.

City's hopes of winning the Premier League title were dealt with a double blow after they suffered consecutive home defeats at the hands of Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur over the past few weeks.

Former defender Mills has not been left impressed by the Citizens' sudden slump and has revealed that the players, particularly Yaya Toure, seem to be distracted by the impending arrival of current Bayern Munich boss Guardiola as manager to replace Manuel Pellegrini next season.

Mills wrote in his blog for Sportlobster: "I believe the City players have been hugely distracted by the Guardiola announcement and they've taken their eye off the prize.

"Yaya Toure knows he's not going to be around next season and his hunger and desire has been questioned.

"They are still in four competitions so they may still be successful and the announcement of Pellegrini's departure could've gone either way in terms of the effect on the squad but two home defeats, albeit to top four opposition, indicates to me that not all is well at the Etihad."
