Jan Vertonghen suggests he enjoys international football so much more at senior level because he wasn't burnt out by a long youth career.
The Tottenham defender, 27, only played nine times for the Belgium U16 and U21s combined before making his senior debut for the Rode Duivels in 2007.
Vertonghen was commenting on Spurs teammate Harry Kane who he feels should take a break in the summer rather than represent England at the U21 European Championships in the Czech Republic.
"It's his decision and it's a totally different situation from when I played in 2007," said the centre-back whose first tournament at international level was the 2007 U21 Euros.
"I enjoyed playing for my country because I never played international football at youth level. So that was my first tournament as a Belgium player and I enjoyed it.
"It was in Holland and I played in Holland for Ajax at the time, so for me it was brilliant. But it's his call."
