Tottenham powerbroker Lewis pleads guilty

British billionaire Joe Lewis, the former owner of Tottenham, has pleaded guilty to insider trading in the United States.

Lewis has been accused of providing information about companies to his romantic partners, friends, and assistants over the years.

The 86-year-old has come to a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney assigned to the case.

He told U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke: "I am so embarrassed and I apologize to the court for my conduct."

When the news of the indictment first emerged, Tottenham said in a statement: "This is a legal matter unconnected with the club and as such we have no comment."

Lewis' plea deal will have no impact on the club whatsoever, as Spurs are owned by ENIC - which is owned by Lewis' Family Discretionary Trust.
