Tottenham hit by Cristian Romero blow

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero isn't expected to play again before the World Cup.

The Argentinian centre-back has been absent for three of the last four games with a calf problem.

Romero missed Spurs' 2-1 defeat to Newcastle last month but then played against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

The Evening Standard says he is now expected to miss their final three games before the tournament - fixtures against Liverpool and Leeds in the Premier League and a Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.

However, he is expected to be fit for Argentina's opening World Cup clash with Saudi Arabia on November 22.

Romero has emerged as a key component of Lionel Scaloni's national side, winning 12 caps since his debut in June 2021.
