Tottenham defender Dier: Special knowing Kane since U20 World Cup

Tottenham defender Eric Dier is proud to have seen Harry Kane's development up close.

Kane became the club's leading goalscorer with his winner against Manchester City on Sunday.

Dier told the club's website: “Harry has been a great team-mate and become a great friend. We've known each other for a long time.

'I've been there for 262 of the goals. It's been incredible to watch his rise and development. The nice story is that we went to the Under-20 World Cup together. I remember him having a tough tournament and, from there, to see his development, how hard he's worked to get to where he is… the consistency in his performances... consistency is the hardest thing to achieve, and his consistency in everything he does, in his behaviour, the way he's been since I've known him, he's been so consistent in who he is as a person, as a footballer, and that's the biggest compliment I can pay him.

"He's so humble, so hard working, and has consistently performed at the highest level. He does that every day. He's boringly consistent in how he acts every day! That's what makes him great. It's been a real pleasure to play with him, and to become good friends. We've spent many amazing years together and I'm sure we'll have a lot more special moments in the future.

"He's a fantastic role model and I'm sure he's got plenty more goals in him. I'm certain he'll break the Premier League record, and the England record. I'm sure he'll have that in his sights. He's one of the best strikers in the world, has been for a very long time, and he's got so much more left in the tank."
