Tottenham defender Dier: Players want to perform for Mourinho

Tottenham star Eric Dier admits everyone at the club wants to prove their quality to manager Jose Mourinho.

There was a lot of negativity when Mourinho took over at Spurs, especially given the popularity of his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.

But Mourinho now has Spurs at the top of the Premier League, and they look like genuine title contenders.

An impressive 2-0 win at home to Manchester City showed their evolution as a counter-attacking side under the Portuguese.

Dier told the Evening Standard: "I think we were pretty effective on Saturday!

"That [performance] says everything really.

"As players, we want to perform for him.

"He's created a fantastic atmosphere, a fantastic camaraderie in the dressing room. We all want to perform for him.

"And to anyone saying those kind of things [negative about Mourinho], as players we want to prove them wrong for him. And I think we did that."
