Tottenham coach King: Winning second ball against Burnley key to victory

Tottenham coach Ledley King says management were delighted with the performance for their 4-0 defeat of Burnley.

King says the transition from back to front was all important.

He told the club's website: “It's always the plan, especially at home, to start as quickly as possible and put teams on the back foot," he said. “We scored an early goal, that was great, and that set us up and we were able to dominate the game, a really strong performance.

“The transition was a big part of what we spoke about before the game. We said we needed to pick up a lot of second balls, especially Pierre and Tanguy, as Burnley put a lot of pressure on you and it was important our defenders won the first ball and then we picked up the second balls and were able to spring from there. We were able to put together some good patterns of play, create chances, and we were happy with that.

“I thought some of the football that we played at times was excellent and maybe we could have scored more goals, but, overall, I think we have to be very happy with the performance.

“Although we were really disappointed with the result at West Ham, there were still a lot of good things to take out of the game. The fact we had 20 attempts, got into a lot of really good positions, then we had another good performance in the Europa League, it was important to kick on again back in the Premier League. Today was the perfect response.

“We've got a tough next couple of fixtures coming up, London derbies, but this is a great fillip to get a 4-0 win and going into those games with a lot of confidence."
