Tottenham football chief John McDermott is under consideration for the FA's technical job.
The FA have publicly advertised the post but are thought to have drawn up a shortlist of potential applicants, with Liverpool pair Alex Inglethorpe and Steve Heighway also in the frame, says the London Evening Standard.
McDermott is part of Mauricio Pochettino's inner circle at Tottenham, overseeing every age group below the first team and having an input into transfer policy.
The 49-year-old Yorkshireman, however, is thought to be happy at White Hart Lane, with sources close to the club claiming he is unlikely to want Dan Ashworth's job.
Ashworth left for Brighton last month.
