Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has said it was not his decision to sign Djed Spence.
The 21-year-old right-back was announced as Tottenham's sixth signing of the summer on Tuesday after a £20m switch from Middlesbrough.
However, the England U21 star might struggle for playing time after Conte revealed it was the club's choice to sign him.
Conte said: "Spence is an investment of the club.
"The club wanted to do it. I said 'OK, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us'.
"The club decided to buy him."
